On the net, and on manor in particular, people meet in a virtual world where identity is blurred. The net provides a forum where age, gender, social status, cultural background etc. has a wider scope of participants than seen anywhere before in history probably.
The net is often
seen as a "new wild west" where anything goes, and that
is part of the attraction. But regular users soon find out that
social norms and values are an asset and even necessary as soon
as they start interacting on the net, just as in real life. Take
the example of when the car was invented. Everything was fine
until too many cars roamed around everywhere. That's when they
invented trafficlights. :-)
Any social structure has some degree of "rules of
conduct", the nets various "subcultures" develops
their codex that suits their particular forum.
Especially on Manor where you can chat, move around and wear any graphic you can find, the social interaction is very direct. So all Manors need some basic rules to insure that users they want there will feel comfortable to be there, whether they explicate those rules or they just follow the "netiquette".
A good rule
about rules :) would be that they should be concise and as
clearly defined as possible, serve a strict purpose and be as few
as possible.
